September 9 — Tesla's two-seater Cybercab has begun carrying paying passengers in Austin, Texas. After experiencing the Cybercab in Austin, gaming streamer @rob2628 posted about it on X, to which Elon Musk replied: “Hope to launch in Europe soon as well.” Last week, Cybercab commenced commercial passenger service in Austin. On Thursday of last week, Tesla held an official launch event for the vehicle. Tesla has recently started soliciting improvement suggestions from Cybercab riders. Cybercab is currently produced at the Texas Gigafactory. Earlier in 2026, Musk stated that Cybercab is “the most likely next major product” to be introduced at the Berlin Gigafactory, with the Optimus humanoid robot potentially following soon after. Tesla has already submitted applications for construction permits for a new production facility and rail hub at the Berlin Gigafactory. Currently, Tesla’s Robotaxi ride-hailing network covers seven metropolitan areas in the United States. To date, six European countries have approved Tesla’s consumer-facing FSD (supervised) technology. France, Sweden, and others have urged the European Union to reject Tesla’s application for a single, EU-wide approval. The Cybercab features no steering wheel or pedals.
