In August 2026, new vehicle sales figures for Japan's three major automakers in the Chinese market were released, showing year-on-year declines for all three companies. Toyota sold 118,400 vehicles in August, down 22.8% year-on-year; Nissan sold 28,275 vehicles, down 51.9% year-on-year; and Honda sold 26,749 vehicles, down 49.9% year-on-year. Sales of new vehicles by Toyota, Nissan, and Honda in China also declined during the first half of 2026. The three automakers have now reported year-on-year sales declines for five consecutive months. Honda has seen sales fall for 31 consecutive months. Nissan stated it plans to launch its new all-electric SUV, the "NX7," within the year. Electric vehicle sales accounted for 71.7% of Toyota’s total sales, an increase of 18.7 percentage points compared to the same period last year.
