On September 10, Wes Morrill, Chief Engineer of the Tesla Cybertruck, shared an update on the Cybertruck’s side blind-spot camera on X, showcasing a newly designed camera housing. The new housing features a passive aerodynamic design that disrupts airflow to channel rain and road spray away from the camera lens while driving—without adding extra cost. Compared to the original fender insert, which sat flush within a triangular recess on the black wheel arch trim, the redesigned housing adds three-dimensional ridges and introduces a vertical fin adjacent to the lens. This airflow-deflecting lip disrupts the air moving along the front fender, diverting water droplets and road grime before they can reach the lens glass. The Cybertruck’s side cameras do not incorporate liquid-spray nozzles. Tesla’s approach is to immediately switch to the updated component once existing inventory is depleted. Last month, Tesla upgraded the Cybertruck’s underbody with a carbon-fiber composite tray, replacing stamped aluminum panels. Several weeks ago, Tesla raised the price of all dual-motor Cybertruck variants by $5,000 (approximately ¥33,628 at current exchange rates), bringing the starting price to $74,990 (approximately ¥504,000 at current exchange rates).
