On September 10, ZF announced that as part of its "Maintain—Repair—Replace" strategy, it will launch more than 100 variants of electric drive axle repair kits in the coming weeks. This strategy prioritizes repairing components where feasible and offers remanufactured assemblies when replacement is more cost-effective. ZF stated it has already produced over six million electric motors for battery-electric and hybrid vehicles for multiple automakers. For battery-electric vehicles, ZF offers the Repair Kit RD, which supplies bearing components for the reduction gear of the drive unit. Other kits target ZF’s 8HP transmission used in hybrid applications: Kit EM integrates rotor and stator assemblies for second-generation hybrid modules; Kit IN is designed for fourth-generation inverters; and Kit ME provides remanufactured fourth-generation mechatronic modules (i.e., the electronic and hydraulic control units of the transmission). ZF’s remanufacturing catalog for electrified vehicles includes approximately 2,400 transmission entries, around 600 of which are mechatronic components. Its portfolio of electric vehicle parts covers about 92% of the top 20 most common electric vehicle models in Europe, including brake, steering, suspension, and drivetrain fluids. Remanufactured drive units for early Hyundai Kona and Kia Niro EVs are priced approximately 30% lower than dealer quotes. Remanufactured motors are also available for the Tesla Model S and Renault Zoe. ZF did not disclose specific vehicle applications, pricing, or labor hours required for the new repair kits.
