On September 12, U.S. President Trump said on Friday that he would not oppose Chinese automakers building plants in the United States to produce vehicles. In an interview with Fox News, Trump stated, "If China wants to come into the U.S. and open factories here to build their cars, I have no problem with that." He added, "That's what Japan did—but they hired our workers. Most importantly, they hired our workers." He further remarked that he does not want Chinese automakers producing cars in Mexico and then exporting them to the United States. China has repeatedly emphasized that its position on handling China-U.S. economic and trade issues remains consistent and clear, opposing unilateral tariff measures in all forms.
