On September 14, Ashok Elluswamy, Tesla’s Vice President of AI, responded on X to a question from community user @wholemars, stating that once the next-generation FSD architecture officially launches, Robotaxis will achieve 24/7 passenger operations. According to plans, this commercial fleet is expected to be deployed in October. During Tesla’s second-quarter earnings call, management stated that some Robotaxi vehicles have already been equipped with an early version of FSD v15, which features seven major architectural improvements over v14. Tesla is expanding Robotaxi operations and geofenced areas in markets including Austin, Dallas, Houston, the San Francisco Bay Area, and Miami. Unsupervised Robotaxi nighttime service was launched earlier in spring 2026, though gaps remain in operational hours, with certain time slots still unavailable for ride requests. The two-seat Cybercab has joined the Robotaxi fleet in Austin, operating alongside modified Model Y vehicles. FSD v15 runs on both vehicle types. Tesla previously confirmed that the fourth-generation hardware suite (HW4/AI4) has sufficient compute power to support FSD v15 and unsupervised autonomous driving requirements; the production Cybercab features an even more powerful FSD computer. Earlier this week, Ashok Elluswamy revealed a new feature of FSD v15: an upgrade to a neural network with tens of billions of parameters. Tesla has previously stated that large-scale expansion of its Robotaxi business must wait until FSD v15 is fully rolled out. Full deployment of FSD v15 across all commercial vehicles is a prerequisite for expanding Robotaxi service into new regions. According to Tesla’s original plan, FSD v15 will be rolled out to consumer vehicles equipped with HW4 hardware between late 2026 and early 2027.
