On September 14, Lexus Japan issued an official notice confirming that production of the UX compact SUV will cease in February 2027. At least one trim level and one body color have already stopped accepting new orders, and the Japanese consumer website indicates the UX will be discontinued outright without a successor or facelift. Lexus has not unveiled a second-generation UX model, nor have any camouflaged prototypes been spotted undergoing road tests. A Lexus USA spokesperson stated, “Regarding the UX, we currently have no information to share.” The brand has not showcased any related concept vehicles, filed trademark applications hinting at a successor, or publicly committed to remaining in the premium compact SUV segment. The UX was introduced for the 2019 model year, built on the same platform as the Toyota Corolla, and has remained in its original generation since launch. The current UX 300h features a four-cylinder hybrid powertrain producing 196 horsepower. In the first half of 2026, the UX sold 6,519 units in the U.S., making it the second-lowest-selling model in Lexus’s SUV lineup—slightly ahead of the LX, which starts above $100,000 (approximately RMB 672,000). During the same period, the all-electric Lexus RZ SUV sold nearly 10,000 units in the U.S. In Australia, where both the UX and LBX are sold, combined BMW X1 and iX1 sales exceeded UX sales by more than fivefold, Mercedes-Benz GLA sales were roughly four times higher, and Audi Q3 sales were about double those of the UX. Since its 2018 debut, the UX has accumulated approximately 400,000 global sales across more than 80 countries. Lexus offers the LBX—a model sharing its platform with the Toyota Yaris Cross—in select markets, though neither the U.S. nor China has received this model.
