On September 14, Volkswagen unveiled the "Mission Efficiency" concept electric vehicle. Built on the MEB+ platform, the car features front-wheel drive and shares its motor and battery with the ID. In ideal-condition testing—conducted at a constant speed of 68 km/h with air conditioning and other auxiliary electrical systems turned off—it achieved an energy consumption of 6.48 kWh per 100 kilometers. Volkswagen drove the vehicle from its R&D center in Wolfsburg through Poznań, Poland, and Olomouc, Czech Republic, to Vienna. The total distance covered was 1,278.36 kilometers, with an average speed of 67.72 km/h and a peak speed of 138 km/h. Including charging losses, the overall energy consumption was 7.51 kWh per 100 kilometers; excluding charging losses, it was 6.89 kWh per 100 kilometers. Equipped with a usable battery capacity of 54.9 kWh, the car was recharged only once during the journey and still had a remaining range of 164 kilometers upon arrival. Based on this, the theoretical maximum range under these conditions exceeds 1,400 kilometers. Volkswagen has submitted the vehicle to Germany’s Record Institute for Documentation (RID) for certification in the category of “near-production, daily-use four-seater electric vehicle.” The car is a 2+2 layout coupe with a liftback tailgate, offering 481 liters of luggage space. With the rear seats folded down, the cargo floor extends up to 1.8 meters in length. It measures 4,775 mm long, 1,744 mm wide, and 1,392 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm—100 mm longer than the ID. Polo’s wheelbase and 722 mm longer overall. Energy is supplied by a 54.9 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery, with software temporarily increasing usable capacity by 2.9 kWh. DC fast charging supports up to 105 kW, while AC charging handles up to 11 kW. A 370-watt solar system embedded in the glass roof and tailgate powers low-voltage electronics, potentially adding up to 30 kilometers of range per day. The interior lacks a traditional infotainment screen; instead, drivers can mount a smartphone or tablet on a rail for wireless vehicle connectivity. Portable Bluetooth speakers are used inside, along with lightweight seats and door panels. The floor is made of a lightweight composite material featuring a rubberized anti-slip structure. Volkswagen has not disclosed any plans for mass production of the vehicle.
