GM Announces Continued Apple CarPlay Support for Select Gasoline Models

On September 15, General Motors (GM) announced it will continue to support Apple CarPlay in certain internal combustion engine vehicles. GM had previously announced in 2023 that it would discontinue CarPlay support in future electric vehicles. In August, Cadillac, a GM brand, launched an online configurator for its 2027 model year vehicles, with the 2027 Lyriq page indicating standard support for both Apple CarPlay and Google Android Auto. According to newly released information, select internal combustion engine models—including the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra—will retain CarPlay support and feature dedicated video screens for front-seat passengers. Michael Wahlstrom, Executive Director of Connected Applications and Services at General Motors, stated that GM’s future pickup trucks will continue to include connected vehicle features. He added that GM has collaborated with Apple and Google to develop a split-screen technology capable of displaying the projected smartphone experience alongside the vehicle’s native interface side by side.
