On September 17 local time, Waymo, the autonomous driving company under Alphabet, announced plans to launch paid robotaxi services in Singapore in 2028. Previously, the company had stated its goal of commencing commercial operations in Tokyo, Japan, by 2027. According to the plan, Waymo will establish its local operations in Singapore over the coming months and deploy its initial fleet of Jaguar I-PACE vehicles; begin human-driven, localized training in 2027; and roll out ride-hailing services to the general public via its first-party app in 2028. Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana said the company will collaborate with Singapore’s Ministry of Transport and the Land Transport Authority.
