On November 1, Hu Xiaoqing, General Manager of BYD's Yangwang Sales Division, announced that the Yangwang U9 Xtreme (U9X) will kick off an open-road top-speed challenge in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates. According to blogger @向北不断电, the Yangwang U9X set a new world top-speed record with a result of 503.17 km/h. This challenge marks the team's first move to open roads in Abu Dhabi, after months of searching for a suitable stretch of road. Prior to the Abu Dhabi challenge, during a preliminary test conducted domestically, test driver Jiang Wen lost control of the vehicle and hit the guardrail while testing in the 420-450 km/h range; the driver was unharmed. Jiang Wen is a dedicated Yangwang driver who has been with BYD for 23 years. In September 2025, the BYD Yangwang U9 Xtreme track version made its global debut, with an officially announced certified top speed of 496.22 km/h at the German ATP test track, achieved by German driver Marc Basseng. In addition, the Yangwang U9X recorded a lap time of 6:59.157 at Germany's Nürburgring Nordschleife. Public information shows that the Yangwang U9X features a full-domain 1,200V ultra-high-voltage platform, equipped with four electric motors capable of spinning up to 30,000 rpm, with a maximum output of over 3,000 Ps (approximately 3,019 Ps) and a power-to-weight ratio of 1,217 Ps/t. The tires are GitiSport e·GTR 2 PRO semi-slick tires custom-developed with Giti, officially certified to withstand driving speeds of 500 km/h. Before the Yangwang U9X, the production car top-speed record was held by the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which set a result of 490.484 km/h (approximately 304.773 mph) in 2019. The Yangwang U9X is limited to 30 units worldwide, with a per-unit price exceeding 20 million yuan—28 units for overseas markets and 2 for the domestic market—and all have been sold out.
