The Toyota subsidiary Primearth EV Energy, often referred to only as PEVE, is planning to build a fourth factory in China.
According to Japanese business newspaper Nikkei, the plan is to complete construction of the factory by 2021, when it will deliver an output of around 100,000 batteries per year. This will increase the total capacity in China to 400,000 units per year and will be the NiMH batteries known from Toyota hybrid cars.
At present, PEVE has two battery factories in China, which focus on the development and production of nickel-hydrogen power battery modules, while nickel-hydrogen power battery modules are mainly used in hybrid electric vehicles.

The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers released the latest production and sales data for the Chinese passenger car market on Monday.
According to the released data, in July 2019, the year-on-year decline in automobile production and sales continued to narrow. The production and sales volume were 1.8 million units and 1.808 million units respectively, down 5% and 12.1% respectively from the previous month, and down 11.9% and 4.3% over the same period of last year. The year-on-year decline was 5.4 percentage points and 5.3 percentage points respectively, lower than that of the previous month. Among them, the month-on-month and the year-on-year decline of passenger vehicles’ production and sales are lower than that of commercial vehicles.
In July, the production and sales performance of new energy vehicles was obviously not the same as that of the previous month, and both production and sales volume decreased compared with the same period of last year. In July, the production and sales volume were 84,000 vehicles and 80,000 vehicles respectively, down 37.2% and 47.5% from the previous month, down 6.9% and 4.7% year-on-year. Among the major varieties of new energy vehicles, the production and sales of pure electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid vehicles all declined, and the decline of pure electric vehicles was more obvious.
