Can Byton change its Chinese name to reverse its decline?

From:Internet Info Agency 2020-09-16 17:31:28

Regarding the news about Byton's change of Chinese name, IIA communicated with the current core team of the automaker and confirmed the name change, and that neither the investor nor the original shareholders have changed. Regarding the follow-up development of Byton, the other party revealed that it will focus on research and development and try its best to promote the mass production of the M-Byte model.

In the past four years, Byton has built a modern factory with an annual production capacity of 300,000 vehicles and obtained qualifications. At the same time, it has also completed the development of a new model. It can be said that Byton is really only one step away from mass production, and this is the basis for Byton's rebirth.

Byton's Nanjing plant officially started trial production on November 6, 2019. This plant integrates vehicle production and R&D and testing. It has five process workshops for stamping, welding, painting, final assembly, and battery, as well as a Chinese R&D center. A high-end smart factory that meets Industry 4.0 standards. Through the intelligent management system and sophisticated inspection process, strict quality control is achieved. The annual production capacity of the first phase is 15 vehicles, and the capacity can be expanded to 300,000 vehicles in the future.

In addition to the factory, Byton has also obtained production qualifications. On September 28, 2018, FAW Xiali announced that it would transfer 100% of its wholly owned subsidiary FAW Huali to Byton at a price of 1 yuan. At the same time, Byton will assume FAW Huali's arrears of more than 800 million yuan. Although Byton has not repaid all the arrears so far, in the announcement issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on May 22 this year, Byton has already appeared, which means that Byton has officially obtained the production qualification.

The mass production version of Byton M-Byte was officially unveiled during CES 2019. In June of the same year, the first body-in-white was rolled off the assembly line, and then the first mass production car was rolled off the line in October. It can be said that for Byton, 99% of the mass production of M-Byte has been completed, and mass production can be achieved with only the last step. This is also Byton's advantage over other new power companies that have not delivered products, and it is also an opportunity for its “resurrection”.

Byton has released its first model M-Byte. The concept version of this medium and large-sized pure electric SUV was first released during CES in 2018. It has been nearly 3 years since now. Its 49-inch shared full-screen, 520km ultra Features such as long battery life can be said to be difficult to find in the new energy market in 2018. However, the new energy vehicle market has developed rapidly in the past three years. Although Byton's shared full screen has not been copied by other companies, interior designs such as dual screens, triple screens, quad screens, and five screens have emerged one after another. The impact of Byton's shared full screen has been wiped out by time and competing products.

The same is true for battery life. The Byton M-Byte long-range battery pack is equipped with a 92kWh battery pack, which makes the M-Byte the pure electric SUV with the largest charge of electricity except Model X in the new energy market before 2019. Its 520km super Long battery life is also in the forefront of the market. But entering 2019, the cruising range of pure electric vehicles has increased rapidly. Pure electric vehicles of 500 kilometers and 600 kilometers have become commonplace, and models with a range of 700 kilometers have also come out. Therefore, M-Byte's 520km battery life can only be at a medium level in the current market. What's more, Byton's current situation predicts that M-Byte mass production delivery will have to wait until next year at the earliest, when M-Byte's competitiveness in battery life may further decline.

High-end new energy vehicles such as hundreds of thousands of products are still bulk commodities for consumers, and they will be extra cautious when purchasing. For companies with bankruptcy precedents like Byton, consumers’ buying confidence is unstable. How to establish a brand new brand image and regain consumer confidence is a difficult task.

For Byton, time is still very tight. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued a regulation on January 17, 2017, stating: “For new energy vehicle manufacturers that have stopped producing new energy vehicle products for 12 months or more, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will make a special announcement.”

On May 22 this year, Huali’s qualifications were officially transferred to Byton’s Nanjing plant. For Byton, which has just restarted, the task of reorganizing suppliers, debugging equipment, and entering the complete mass production process must be completed within 9 months. This task is still very urgent.

It is undeniable that 2020 will be an unfriendly year for the auto industry. The cold capital and the market decline will make the already difficult new energy auto industry worse. The bane of Byton's previous extravagance was also detonated in such a market, and it was accidental and inevitable.

Fortunately, Byton’s shareholders did not abandon it. For Byton, which started again, strictly control costs, avoid waste, and accelerate the mass production of M-Byte. Perhaps only this way can it win in an increasingly competitive market. Born to the sun, turning defeat into an opportunity to win.
