Volkswagen ID.3 Mid-Cycle Refresh Confirmed: Physical Buttons Return, Entry-Level LFP Battery Version Launched

Due to the delay of the all-electric Golf until 2030, Volkswagen will extend the ID.3’s product lifecycle and launch its second mid-cycle refresh in Q2 2026. Designed under the direction of Andreas Mindt, Head of Design, the updated model features a new front-end design language similar to that of the ID. Polo, emphasizing a “return to Volkswagen’s roots.” In response to customer complaints about touch controls, the refreshed ID.3 will reintroduce physical buttons and haptic feedback, along with upgraded interior materials for enhanced perceived quality. Technologically, further optimizations to the MEB platform will improve both range and charging efficiency. More significantly, Volkswagen will introduce lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for the first time in the entry-level ID.3 variant, lowering its price to better compete against Chinese EVs. Additionally, the high-performance GTX version may be renamed GTI to align with Volkswagen’s unified performance-oriented naming strategy.
