At CES 2026, startup Teradar unveiled Summit, the world’s first visual sensor operating in the terahertz (THz) band, with mass production slated for 2028. The sensor bridges the performance gap between conventional radar and LiDAR, offering both high resolution and strong penetration capabilities. Built on Teradar’s proprietary all-solid-state, modular THz engine—dubbed MTE—Summit integrates transmit, receive, and processing units into a single system, delivering a native resolution of 0.13°, a detection range exceeding 300 meters, and all-weather operational capability. Teradar stated that the product has already drawn interest from multiple global automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers and will compete in bids for mass-production programs this year.
