According to Deloitte's newly released "2026 Global Automotive Consumer Study," more than 60% of Chinese consumers plan to purchase vehicles priced at RMB 300,000 or above. Among these, the RMB 300,000–399,999 segment accounts for the largest share at 30%, followed by 22% in the RMB 400,000–499,999 range and 11% for vehicles priced above RMB 500,000. In contrast, vehicles priced below RMB 200,000 collectively represent only 10% of intended purchases. Regarding powertrain preferences, internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles remain dominant, chosen by 41% of respondents. Battery electric vehicles (BEVs), hybrids (HEVs), and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) account for 20%, 19%, and 17% respectively. The report is based on a survey of over 28,500 consumers across 27 countries conducted between October and November 2025. Now in its 14th consecutive year, the study provides valuable insights into the trends of premiumization and new-energy vehicle transformation in China’s automotive market.
