Despite being blocked by Swedish unions—leading to the rejection of its grid connection application—Tesla opened a new Supercharger station just before Christmas in Arlandastad, on the outskirts of Stockholm. The station bypasses reliance on the traditional power grid entirely, instead drawing electricity from an on-site Megapack energy storage system, thereby circumventing regulatory hurdles. Currently, the station offers eight charging stalls (out of an originally planned 40) and is open to non-Tesla electric vehicles as well. According to local automotive bloggers, the Megapack may be recharged through private arrangements with nearby businesses already connected to the grid. However, this model is constrained by local infrastructure limitations and cannot be easily replicated everywhere. Notably, although union actions have hindered Tesla’s expansion of its charging network, they have had limited impact on vehicle sales, as most customers rely primarily on home charging.
