Elon Musk recently revealed on X that Tesla's next-generation AI chip, the AI5, delivers performance in a single-SoC configuration nearly on par with NVIDIA's Hopper-architecture GPUs, and when configured with dual SoCs, matches the capabilities of Blackwell-class hardware. He emphasized that the AI5 offers significantly lower costs and pricing. Musk also acknowledged that the AI5 development faced challenges, prompting Tesla to merge its automotive and data center AI chip teams to focus intensively on overcoming these hurdles—a period during which he himself worked six days a week for several consecutive months. Currently, the AI5 project is progressing smoothly and has already enabled the resumption of development on the Dojo 3 supercomputer project.
