Recently, automotive blogger Sawyer Merritt spotted Tesla’s Cybercab autonomous taxi undergoing road tests in Chicago. Although the vehicle was covered in grime, the area around the rear camera was noticeably clean, and water marks were visible on the trunk lid—suggesting it may be equipped with an automatic rear-camera cleaning system. Tesla owners have long called for such a feature, as a dirty rear camera can impair the 360-degree camera view and Full Self-Driving (FSD) performance, especially in rain or snow. As a fully autonomous vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, the Cybercab is likely to feature cleaning systems for all its cameras to ensure reliable visual perception. Unveiled in 2024, the Cybercab features butterfly doors and a hatchback design and has now entered real-world road testing.
