On January 16, Great Wall Motor officially unveiled its new "Guiyuan" vehicle platform and emphatically declared it would "never develop range-extended electric vehicles." The platform supports five powertrain configurations—PHEV, HEV, BEV, FCEV, and ICE—and emphasizes a modular design philosophy of "one vehicle, multiple powertrains; one vehicle, multiple variants." This approach aims to enhance R&D efficiency and cost control through high standardization and unified interfaces. Great Wall President Mu Feng criticized range-extended technology as "inefficient in energy conversion and a compromise solution," strongly advocating instead for the company's Hi4 hybrid technologies. Additionally, the "Guiyuan" platform incorporates native AI capabilities and a centralized electronic/electrical (E/E) architecture to advance software-defined vehicles. This launch marks Great Wall’s strategic shift from competing on individual products to engaging in comprehensive, brand-wide, multi-powertrain, and global-system competition. However, its success still hinges on overcoming multiple challenges, including organizational synergy, software capabilities, and overseas implementation.
