A car owner expressed frustration on social media after noticing that a technician at Tire Plaza had turned his two dashcams away from the interior of the vehicle during a tire change, preventing them from recording inside the car. The incident was captured in a video posted by TikTok user @ontheclockdashcamfootage, which has since garnered nearly one million views. However, most online commenters sided with the technician, arguing that repair shops are private premises and have the right to refuse being recorded. Fellow technicians commented that they routinely disable dashcams on vehicles brought into their shops, emphasizing, “If you don’t want to be filmed, don’t expect others to accommodate your recording.” Others countered that as long as the technician behaves appropriately, there should be no objection to being recorded. Legally, the situation varies by jurisdiction: some states prohibit audio or video recording on private property without consent, while others permit it. Neither party has responded to media requests for comment.
