Tesla's Cybercab autonomous taxi prototype has recently been spotted in multiple U.S. locations, revealing several key design updates. The test vehicles are now equipped with rear-mounted camera washer systems to handle winter road salt and mud, ensuring sensors function properly in harsh weather—indicating Tesla is addressing weaknesses in its "vision-only" approach. Additionally, units undergoing road tests in Austin have completely eliminated traditional side mirrors, replacing them with fender-mounted cameras for side and rear visibility, resulting in an even more minimalist exterior. Although a temporary steering wheel remains for safety operators, the mirrorless design strongly suggests that a production version is imminent. While the Cybercab primarily emphasizes wireless charging, Tesla has added a physical NACS charging port to maintain compatibility with existing infrastructure, creating a "charging redundancy." Currently, Tesla has deployed a total of 200 Robotaxis across the San Francisco Bay Area and Austin, with ride wait times now reduced to under five minutes.
