Although Renault exited China's internal combustion engine passenger vehicle market in 2020, its global CEO Luca de Meo recently stated during a visit to China that the country remains a "key player" in the group’s strategic vision. Renault is no longer pursuing sales volume; instead, it is deeply integrating into China’s innovation ecosystem through its Shanghai-based ACDC R&D center and a new energy industry fund co-established with CICC Private Equity. The ACDC center has achieved a breakthrough in efficiency—cutting vehicle development cycles to just 21 months and reducing costs by 50%—effectively translating "China speed" into global competitiveness. Meanwhile, Renault is collaborating with Geely in markets such as South Korea and Brazil, leveraging Chinese technology platforms to expand overseas. De Meo emphasized a philosophy of cooperation based on “harmony in diversity”—sharing technologies while maintaining independent brands—with the goal of creating a “two-way channel”: feeding China’s supply chain strength and innovation capabilities back into Renault’s global operations, while also supporting Chinese partners in their international expansion. Looking ahead, AI and intelligent technologies will become key focus areas for ACDC, as Renault’s “China Formula” evolves from a pilot initiative into a core strategic pillar.
