As of the end of December 2025, China had a total of 20.092 million electric vehicle (EV) charging points nationwide, an increase of 49.7% year-on-year. This includes 4.717 million public chargers and 15.375 million private chargers, supporting the operation of over 40 million new-energy vehicles. According to data from the National Energy Administration, China has built the world's largest EV charging network. The country’s charging infrastructure exhibits three key characteristics: First, rapid deployment—charging points surged from 1 million to 20 million in just 18 months. Second, improved charging efficiency—the average power output per public charging gun reached 46.5 kW, up 33% year-on-year. Third, broader coverage—with 71,500 chargers installed at highway service areas, covering more than 98% of such facilities, and 19 provinces achieving full charger coverage across all townships.
