On January 22, Zhiji Auto announced that its Zhiji R7 all-electric Ultra variant has achieved a drag coefficient of 0.217, certified by China Automotive Research Institute (CATARC), setting a new global record for the lowest drag coefficient among mass-produced SUVs. This achievement stems from over 20 aerodynamic optimizations, including a low-slung coupe-like fastback design, active grille shutters (AGS), 3D curved front wheel air deflectors, front bumper air curtains, and flush-mounted door handles. Additionally, CATARC conducted rolling resistance tests (including drivetrain and tire resistance) on the vehicle, combining this data with aerodynamic measurements to provide a more accurate reflection of real-world energy consumption. The results show that the Zhiji R7’s energy consumption is 3.44% lower than the industry average, making it the most energy-efficient SUV currently on the market.
