In 2025, Changan Ford’s retail sales in China plummeted to just 99,400 units—a sharp drop from 247,000 units in 2024—falling below the industry-recognized "annual survival threshold" of 100,000 units for the first time. Monthly sales have been on a steady decline since the beginning of the year, and starting in June, Changan Automobile ceased disclosing Changan Ford’s sales figures separately. The primary reasons are its overly narrow product lineup and lagging electrification efforts: sales heavily relied on the Mondeo, while models like the Focus have already been discontinued; its all-electric Mustang Mach-E sold only 35 units throughout the year. In response to these challenges, Ford China announced in September the integration of Changan Ford’s and JMC Ford’s sales channels, planning to reduce its dealership network from 380 outlets to around 300. Meanwhile, the company has frequently reshuffled its management team and issued recalls for certain Focus models due to quality issues. In a Chinese market where new energy vehicle penetration has surpassed 50%, Changan Ford faces an arduous path toward transformation.
