Ford has recently recalled a total of 453,828 vehicles in the United States and Canada due to a potential risk of cracks in the housing of engine block heaters on certain models. These cracks could lead to coolant leaks, which might cause a short circuit or even a fire when the heater is powered again. Although the actual probability of fire is low, Ford is taking this precautionary measure. The recall affects multiple models equipped primarily with 2.0L or 2.3L engines, including the 2013–2018 Ford Focus, 2013–2019 Ford Escape, 2015–2016 Lincoln MKC, 2019–2020 Ford Taurus, and 2019–2024 Ford Ranger pickups. Canada accounts for 332,410 of the recalled vehicles—significantly more than the U.S.—due to its colder winters and higher usage frequency of block heaters. Engine block heaters are used in cold climates to maintain engine temperature while parked, improving cold-start performance.
