On January 21, Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI), a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), successfully launched the first of a series of 10,800-car LNG dual-fuel pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs) built for South Korea’s HMM Company. This vessel is currently the largest car carrier ever constructed in China. Measuring 230 meters in length and 40 meters in width, the ship features an LNG/diesel dual-fuel propulsion system compliant with IMO Tier III emission standards. Its 14-deck cargo space—including five hoistable decks—offers flexible stowage for electric vehicles, hydrogen-powered vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks, with a maximum capacity of 10,800 vehicles. This project marks the first application of “bi-lobe” LNG fuel tanks in China and incorporates a high-standard safety management system to ensure safe and efficient construction. The successful launch signifies a major breakthrough for GSI in the field of advanced, clean-energy vessels.
