2026 new vehicle plans revealed: range-extended EVs are accelerating toward "larger batteries." The updated Li Auto L9 will feature a battery pack exceeding 70 kWh, enabling a pure electric range of over 400 km. Xiaomi’s large range-extended SUV, codenamed "Kunlun N3," is expected to be equipped with an 80 kWh battery. Leapmotor’s D19 and D99 models will debut with an even larger 80.3 kWh battery, delivering a pure electric range of up to 500 km. Meanwhile, multiple automakers are simultaneously rolling out 800V high-voltage platforms and 5C ultra-fast charging technologies to balance extended range with rapid recharging capabilities. Although automakers like Great Wall Motor and NIO have criticized range-extended technology as inefficient and merely a "transitional solution," user data shows that most range-extended EV owners primarily drive in electric mode and strongly demand larger batteries. Looking ahead, range-extended vehicles may adopt a "large battery + small fuel tank" approach—enhancing the pure electric driving experience while using the fuel tank solely as a backup.
