Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel filed an antitrust lawsuit on Friday against BP, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Shell, and the American Petroleum Institute, accusing them of operating for decades as a "cartel" to conspire against the development of renewable energy and electric vehicles in the United States. The complaint alleges that these companies entered into agreements to curtail the production and distribution of renewable electricity and systematically suppressed the market competitiveness of electric vehicles and related clean technologies, thereby harming consumer choice and the innovation ecosystem. The lawsuit seeks to hold these corporations accountable for their long-standing obstruction of the energy transition and to promote fair competition.
