SAIC Volkswagen is accelerating its transition toward new energy vehicles and plans to launch nearly seven new models by 2026, covering battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and— for the first time—range-extended electric vehicles (REEVs). Its first range-extended SUV, the ID.ERA 9X, has already entered pre-series production and will be launched in March this year. Positioned as a large six-seater SUV, it features a 1.5T range extender and a 65.2 kWh battery, delivering over 400 km of CLTC-rated all-electric range. Intelligent driving capabilities are powered by Momenta. Produced at the Ningbo plant, the ID.ERA 9X is regarded as a key product under SAIC Volkswagen’s “JV 2.0” strategy. Another five-seat range-extended model is expected to debut in the second half of the year. Meanwhile, SAIC Volkswagen has halted further development of the Viloran MPV and ceased production of the ID.3, ID.4 X, and ID.6 X. The production lines previously used for these models are being retooled for new BEVs based on the CMP platform, including an SUV co-developed with XPeng. The company emphasized its focus on profitable projects and cost control to enhance competitiveness.
