As of 2025, Beijing has surpassed 1.3 million new energy vehicles (NEVs), accounting for a significant share of the city’s total vehicle fleet of 8.095 million. Vehicles meeting NEV standards or China V emission standards and above now represent over 80% of all motor vehicles in the city. In 2025 alone, NEVs accounted for more than 60% of all newly registered vehicles in Beijing. To accelerate its green transition, Beijing has phased out over 10,000 older passenger and freight vehicles meeting China IV standards or below. All newly added or replaced conventional taxis, light-duty postal delivery vehicles, and sanitation trucks are now exclusively NEVs, and 500 new energy buses have already been registered. Charging infrastructure development has also accelerated in tandem: the city has built 1,044 ultra-fast charging stations and installed 11,263 new charging ports. With 12.65 million licensed drivers currently in Beijing, the expansion of NEV adoption and supporting infrastructure is strongly advancing the capital’s green mobility goals.
