By the end of 2025, China had a total of 469 million motor vehicles, including 366 million automobiles. Among these, new-energy vehicles (NEVs) reached 43.97 million, accounting for 12.01% of the total automobile fleet, with battery electric vehicles (BEVs) making up 68.74% of all NEVs. In 2025, 12.93 million new NEVs were newly registered, representing nearly half (49.38%) of all new vehicle registrations—a year-on-year increase of 14.93%. Nationwide, 103 cities now have more than one million automobiles each, an increase of seven cities compared to 2024. The used-car market remained robust, with vehicle transfer registrations exceeding new vehicle registrations for the sixth consecutive year; in 2025, 38.41 million vehicle transfer registrations were processed. Additionally, the country had 559 million licensed drivers, with 20.51 million new licenses issued in 2025. Over 116 million traffic management services were handled online during the year.
