Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. of Japan has inaugurated its sixth vehicle assembly plant in Indonesia—the second phase of the Karawang Assembly Plant (KAP 2)—located in the Karawang Industrial Estate, West Java Province. The facility was developed by PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM), a joint venture between Daihatsu and the Astra Group, with a total investment of approximately IDR 2.9 trillion. With an annual production capacity of 140,000 units, the new plant brings ADM’s total manufacturing capacity in Indonesia to over 530,000 vehicles per year, enabling it to meet both domestic demand and export requirements. The KAP 2 facility is built on Daihatsu’s E-SSC (Excellent Smart Sustainable Compact) production philosophy, integrating body, paint, and final assembly processes under one roof. It leverages robotic automation to enhance operational efficiency. In line with sustainability goals, the plant features an open-wall design, water-based paints, zero wastewater discharge, and rooftop photovoltaic systems, aiming to reduce carbon emissions per unit of production by 20%. ADM’s localized supply chain involves more than 1,000 local suppliers, achieving a high level of domestic parts localization. Concurrently, Daihatsu launched the Rocky e-Smart Hybrid in Indonesia—a hybrid model that uses an electric motor for propulsion while the internal combustion engine functions solely as a generator—further advancing its green mobility strategy alongside the KAP 2 facility.
