Nissan Motor recently announced an agreement with Chery South Africa, under which Chery will acquire Nissan’s Rosslyn manufacturing plant in Pretoria, South Africa—including the land, factory buildings, and adjacent stamping facility. The transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2026. Operational since 1966, the Rosslyn plant has been Nissan’s sole production base in South Africa. This sale forms part of Nissan’s global strategy to close seven plants worldwide. Following the deal’s completion, Nissan will continue selling new vehicles and providing after-sales services in South Africa. The company also plans to launch two new SUV models locally in 2026: the Tecton (based on the CMF-B platform) and the Patrol. The Tecton will make its global debut in the Indian market on February 4, 2026, before being introduced in other regions. Chery entered the South African market in 2021 and has since risen to become one of the top five passenger vehicle sellers in the country, with over 60,000 customers.
