Volvo is evaluating the launch of a full-size, three-row SUV larger than the XC90, targeting rivals such as the Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz GLS, and BMW X7. CEO Håkan Samuelsson stated that the project has not yet been formally approved but has entered the research phase. The new vehicle is expected to feature a plug-in hybrid system similar to a range-extended EV, offering an all-electric range of approximately 160 kilometers and delivering a "EV-like" experience in terms of quietness and acceleration. Driven by strong demand for large luxury SUVs in the U.S. and Chinese markets, Volvo may leverage resources from Geely’s ecosystem, drawing reference from Zeekr’s upcoming 9X model—scheduled for launch in 2025—which boasts a 3,167 mm wheelbase, a combined output of 1,381 horsepower, a 900V high-voltage architecture, and ultra-fast charging capability. The name for Volvo’s new SUV has not been finalized; it could be called the XC100 or receive an entirely new designation.
