Tesla has announced a partnership with Pilot Travel Centers, the largest operator of highway travel centers in the U.S., to build multiple high-power charging stations along Interstate 5 (I-5) and Interstate 10 (I-10) in California, Georgia, Nevada, New Mexico, and Texas. These stations will be dedicated to serving the Tesla Semi electric heavy-duty truck and other Class 8 battery-electric trucks (those with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 15 tons). The first sites are expected to open by late summer this year, each equipped with four to eight charging stalls capable of delivering up to 1.2 megawatts of power per stall. Currently, Tesla has 46 public Semi charging stations under construction or in planning across the United States and plans to mass-produce 50,000 Semis over the next few years. With customers like PepsiCo and DHL already having collectively logged millions of miles, the demand for a reliable public charging network is becoming increasingly urgent.
