U.S. President Donald Trump said he would work with South Korea to find a solution regarding his previously announced plan to impose additional tariffs on Korean imports. On Monday, Trump posted on social media that because the South Korean National Assembly had failed to fulfill certain parts of their bilateral agreement, he intended to raise tariffs on Korean imports—including automobiles—to 25%. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump stated, "We’ll figure something out together with South Korea." The announcement caught the South Korean government off guard, with officials admitting they were "quite surprised" and urgently convening to discuss countermeasures to prevent significant damage to the South Korean economy.
