On January 28, TrendForce released a report stating that Chinese brands have secured an absolute dominant position in the global extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) market. In the third quarter of 2025, EREVs are projected to account for 4% of global new vehicle sales. Among them, Aito (Seres) leads the market with a 39% share, followed closely by Li Auto at 26%. Changan, Leapmotor, and BAIC rank third through fifth, respectively. Although European automakers such as BMW and Volkswagen plan to launch EREV models in 2026, Chinese brands currently remain at the forefront of the market. The report forecasts that annual global EREV sales will reach 3 million units by 2030—double the volume expected in 2025. However, these vehicles are primarily concentrated in the premium SUV segment, featuring relatively high prices and lower energy efficiency compared to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), necessitating continued breakthroughs in technological optimization and cost control going forward.
