Volkswagen Group China announced that its regionally controlled electronic and electrical architecture (CEA), specifically developed for the Chinese market, has entered production as scheduled by the end of 2025. The first model based on this architecture, the ID. UNYX 07, has rolled off the production line at Volkswagen Anhui’s plant. Jointly developed by Volkswagen Group China Technology Company (VCTC), CARIAD China, and XPeng Motors, the CEA features a high-performance central computing platform and strong scalability, supporting all powertrain types—including battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Compared to the previous generation architecture, the CEA reduces the number of ECUs by approximately 30%, providing stronger technical support for AI-powered cockpits, localized advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and full-vehicle over-the-air (OTA) updates. Leveraging this new architecture and an agile development process, vehicle development efficiency has increased by up to 30%, while costs for certain models have been reduced by as much as 50%. This year, Volkswagen’s three joint ventures in China will successively launch five new models based on the CEA architecture, expanding product offerings from segment A to segment B and accelerating the implementation of its “In China, For China” strategy.
