Tesla has recently been testing prototypes of its fully autonomous robotaxi, Cybercab, in multiple locations across the United States. However, leaked videos reveal that the vehicles are equipped with a manual charging port at the rear, requiring human intervention to plug into Superchargers—contradicting Tesla’s “fully autonomous” positioning. Previously, Tesla stated it would implement wireless inductive charging for the Cybercab, eliminating manual operations entirely. Yet, due to current technical limitations of wireless charging—such as high heat loss and low efficiency—it remains highly challenging to deploy efficient wireless charging before production begins in April. Analysts note that even if wireless charging becomes available in the future, retaining a wired charging port would still offer practical benefits: short stops could utilize wireless charging for convenience, while returning to service centers for cleaning or maintenance could leverage faster, more efficient wired Supercharging.
