In response to intensifying competition in the luxury car market and the impact of new energy vehicles, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have recently significantly lowered the official manufacturer-suggested retail prices (MSRPs) of their core models. Mercedes-Benz reduced prices for its C-Class, GLB, and GLC models by RMB 33,700 to RMB 69,000—representing a maximum reduction of approximately 10%—while also streamlining certain C-Class variants. BMW began implementing price cuts on January 1, 2024, with multiple models seeing reductions exceeding 10%. Notably, the flagship all-electric i7 M70L saw a price drop of RMB 301,000 (a 16% decrease), the iX1 eDrive25L was discounted by 24%, and the gasoline-powered X1 experienced price reductions of 18%–19%. The price adjustments have yielded significant results: BMW’s 5 Series recorded a 30% month-over-month sales increase in January, while the X1 sold 8,843 units—a standout performance during what is traditionally a slow season.
