Tesla recently clarified that there is currently no such thing as a "Hardware 4.5" (HW4.5 or AP4.5) onboard computer. Earlier, the appearance of the "AP45" label in internal systems and vehicle documentation had sparked widespread consumer confusion regarding Full Self-Driving (FSD) hardware configurations, even influencing some customers to delay purchases or cancel orders. Tesla has issued an internal notice to its North American sales team explicitly stating that all vehicles currently being delivered are equipped with the HW4 (also known as AP4) platform—the company’s latest hardware for Supervised FSD. Tesla acknowledged that the "AP45" designation resulted from a temporary labeling error caused by formatting discrepancies between production departments, not from the mass production of new hardware. To prevent further confusion, Tesla is comprehensively updating its internal systems, option codes, and sales terminology to ensure consistent and accurate information.
