Taiwan, China plans to officially legalize low-speed, small three-wheeled mobility vehicles—commonly known as "cabin motorcycles"—for road use in the second half of this year. Although classified as motorcycles (Category L5) and required to display motorcycle license plates, these vehicles must be operated by drivers holding at least a standard passenger car driver’s license. Their operation will follow regulations applicable to passenger cars: they are prohibited from using expressways and fast roads. Inspection standards for these vehicles will align with those for passenger cars, including mandatory periodic inspections, regulations on window tinting, and compulsory seat belt use. Parking is permitted in either car or motorcycle spaces. Drivers operating these vehicles with only an ordinary motorcycle license will face fines ranging from NT$6,000 to NT$12,000; unlicensed driving could result in penalties up to NT$36,000.
