Ram officially enters the midsize pickup truck segment, with the all-new Dakota set to enter production next year. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis emphasized that the new model will be a “real truck,” offering solid performance and practicality—just in a smaller size and at a more affordable price point. Designed specifically for the U.S. market and positioned below the Ram 1500, the Dakota will directly compete against models like the Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, and Chevrolet Colorado, with an expected starting price around $33,000. While specific powertrain details have not been confirmed, the Dakota is expected to offer both four-cylinder and six-cylinder gasoline engines, and may also introduce a hybrid powertrain. Kuniskis specifically referenced the Jeep Cherokee equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid system as something they’re watching closely. He also noted, “You don’t necessarily need a V8.” To stand out in this highly competitive segment, the Ram Dakota must deliver genuine capability in real-world hauling and off-road performance.
