Starting February 4, State Grid Corporation of China has partnered with local power authorities to launch an intelligent charging solution at highway service areas, aiming to alleviate charging difficulties for new energy vehicle (NEV) owners during the Spring Festival travel rush. Leveraging a smart platform that monitors real-time charging pile loads and accurately forecasts peak demand, the system dynamically dispatches mobile charging units to deliver a “charger-follows-vehicle” service model. At the Pinghu Service Area on the Hangpu Expressway, average daily charging sessions have increased from 180 to 220 vehicles, with numbers expected to surpass 400 during the Spring Festival travel peak. Meanwhile, high-capacity green mobile charging vehicles—essentially giant portable power stations equipped with fast-charging ports—have already been deployed at popular service areas and tourist spots in cities like Xiamen. These mobile units can swiftly respond to congested queues and flexibly fill gaps left by fixed charging infrastructure, significantly boosting overall charging efficiency.
