Kia has confirmed it will discontinue sales of the Niro Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) in the U.S. market starting in 2026. The company told Kelley Blue Book that this decision responds to shifting market conditions. The Niro PHEV has consistently been the lowest-selling variant in the lineup, significantly less popular than both the gasoline-powered and all-electric versions. In 2023, Kia sold a total of 31,182 Niros in the U.S., with the PHEV accounting for the smallest share (the company did not disclose specific breakdown figures). Currently, the gasoline-powered Niro and the Niro EV are expected to remain on sale through 2027. As U.S. consumer interest in plug-in hybrids wanes, several automakers are phasing out such models—making the Niro PHEV neither the first nor likely the last to be discontinued.
