The Ford Mustang, which had a sluggish start in 2025, staged a strong rebound toward year-end—a momentum that has carried into 2026. In January, Mustang sales reached 3,609 units, surging 50.4% year-over-year, far outpacing the all-electric Mach-E, which sold only 1,040 units—a steep 70.5% decline from the same period last year. Although Mustang sales were weak during the first three quarters of 2025, they soared to 12,515 units in the fourth quarter, up 66.5% year-over-year, helping the model achieve a modest 3.0% annual increase overall. Nevertheless, Mustang sales remain well below the 72,000 units sold in 2019 and its peak of 166,000 units in 2006. While it currently holds its position as America’s best-selling sports car, the broader sports car segment continues to shrink as consumers increasingly favor SUVs and pickups, leaving Mustang’s sustained recovery uncertain.
