Japanese auto parts giant Aisin recently announced it will invest approximately 32 billion yen (about USD 204 million) to build two new factories in India—one in Maharashtra and the other in Haryana—with production expected to commence in 2029. The new plants will manufacture automatic transmissions, continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), and body components, marking Aisin’s first localized transmission production in India to meet rising local demand for automatic vehicles. Currently, Aisin operates four production bases in India and last year outsourced electric vehicle (EV) e-axle production to Toyota’s Indian subsidiary. Additionally, Aisin has formed a joint venture in Canada with Toyota Tsusho and Minth Group to produce lightweight components for EVs, such as aluminum battery enclosures. The ownership stakes in the joint venture are 40% for Aisin, 40% for Toyota Tsusho, and 20% for Minth Group.
