In December 2024, American tourists Justin Riddell and Glenn Benison had their Lexus RX 350h and Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro stolen while attending a hockey game in Mississauga, Canada. The vehicles were parked outside the Bloom Hotel, part of Hilton’s portfolio. Riddell stated that hotel staff acknowledged local vehicle thefts as a “known issue” but later refused to assist, citing only the disclaimer “park at your own risk” and offering a partial room refund. Despite charging CAD 16 per day for parking, the hotel provided only unsecured self-parking with no security measures. According to Ontario police data, 70 vehicle thefts occurred in the area during the first 10 days of January 2026. Riddell requested that the hotel provide surveillance footage, assist with the investigation, and enhance security, but received no response. He is now pursuing legal action under Ontario’s Occupiers’ Liability Act, seeking compensation from the hotel and improvements to its safety protocols. The case is currently under investigation by Peel Regional Police, and Hilton has not yet issued a comment.
